The Fashion industry

Designer report

Intro to the Fashion Industry taught me a comprehensive introduction to the terminology, processes, practices, and interrelationships involved in marketing fashion goods and services. We first learned about the principles and cycles of fashion, referring to the rise, wide popularity, and subsequent decline in acceptance of a style, how fashions evolve, and how consumers accept or reject certain styles. We also explored various fashion auxiliary services, fashion retailing, global sourcing and merchandising in relation to foreign affairs, and the business of fashion. The Designer Report gave me the opportunity to research Virgil Abloh, the Creative Director for Louis Vuitton and Chief Executive Officer of Off-White. In my essay, I analyzed Abloh's collections and runway shows so far for Louis Vuitton and his various PR strategies, such as pop-up shops around the world. I also discussed his thoughts on contemporary streetwear, as he aims to rebrand Louis Vuitton's ready-to-wear to reach a wider audience. This report allowed me to develop my skills of comprehensive analysis and evoked my interest in the luxury fashion industry.

Fall 2020 trend report

The Fall Trends Report gave me the opportunity to analyze trends displayed in the 2020 New York Fashion Week collections for designers such as Zimmermann, Rag & Bone, Brandon Maxwell, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Christopher John Rogers, The Row, and Area. I discussed trends among collections relating to color, tailoring, and glamorous evening wear in order to make predictions for fall styles. I benefitted greatly in my learning from this assignment because I was able to further develop my keen eye for design by quickly analyzing the garments that were displayed as I streamed the runway shows. I was also able to discuss trends that were common amongst designers and support my findings with factual trend forecasting data from WGSN.

Competitive shopping assignment

The Competitive Shopping Assignment gave me the opportunity to analyze ten garments from five different retail levels for their online shopping experience, retail store pricing, perceived garment quality, and trend accuracy. General, moderate, budget, specialty, and boutique level retailers vary in their retail, marketing, and pricing strategies, but also may share some interesting similarities that help them to develop their own unique experience for the consumer. For this assignment, I deeply analyzed the e-commerce websites of brands including Walmart, Macy's, JCPenney, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Azalea. It was interesting to note the overall experience I had while browsing each website, including ease of navigation and overall presentation and aesthetics.
