pajama pants
Apparel Construction taught me the fundamentals of apparel design, including how to sew by hand and sew garments from a patterns using an industrial sewing machine. By sewing samples in class, I was able to learn the importance of stitch length and type, thread tension, and garment findings. This helped me to properly sew our larger projects, such as these Pajama Pants. During class we went to the fabric store to choose fabric and pick up the necessary additional items needed to sew our pants, such as thread, needles, fabric scissors, marker pens, pins, a measuring tape, and fusible interlining. Using a graded pattern, we cut our our pieces based on the proper grain and selvage directionality, and began sewing our pants. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my pajama shirt and skirt project due to COVID-19. However, the skills I learned in class before being sent home from school allowed me to understand the fundamentals of sewing and inspired me to sew face masks to help aid friends and family during the pandemic.
