oral presentation:
louis vuitton x jeff koons
History of Italian Fashion has taught me about numerous Italian fashion designers, from conception to present. I've gained extensive knowledge about the evolution of the brands, with emphasis on the original designs, as well as the moderization of the brands under the current creative directors. As a class, we also visited numerous Fashion Museums and stores throughout Florence, including Musèe Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci Gardens, and Flo Concept Store. In the middle of the semester, we were assigned to research a recent collaboration between a designer and an artist and create an Oral Presentation. I decided to research the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons which launched on April 28, 2017. The collaboration includes artwork from Koons' Gazing Ball Paintings, which are reinterpretations of Master art pieces including Titan, Van Gogh, Fragonard, and more. Koons incorporated these master artworks onto some of LV's most iconic bags, including the Speedy, Keepall, and Neverfull. The artists' names are featured in metal block letters on the bags and on the inside of each bag, there is a biography and portrait of the artist that the piece was inspired by. Koons also altered the LV logo to feature his initials, which was iconic because this was the first time this was allowed to be done in LV history. Each bag also has a leather rabbit tag, a key Koons trademark.
final presentation:
the attico
For our Final Presentation in History of Italian Fashion, we were assigned to research an Italian brand or designer. I chose to research an up and coming Milan-based brand, The Attico. Since the founding of the brand in 2016, founders and street style fanatics Gilda Ambrosio and Gilda Tordini have succeeded in becoming a world-wide phenomenon, with their designs being worn at global fashion weeks and red carpet events. The brand's popularity surged after the release of their signature feather dress and neon heels. Today, the brand is worn by hundreds of celebrities, including Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa, Kendall Jenner, and Rhianna. The brand is sold in hundreds of wholesale retailers and uses social media as their main tactic of marketing.
